Study on how to mitigate flooding completed — DENR

The government has already finished drafting the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

This was revealed by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Noralene Uy during a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.

“Na complete na ang National Adaptation Plan,” Uy said. “Pinapakita dito ang pluvial floods, precipitation that exceeds the capacity ng urban water drainage system.”

Based on the NAP, the lands exposed to pluvial flooding will increase by 50 percent in the coming decades, Uy said.

“Around 34 percent increase in exposure will be in the forests, she added.

Uy said the NAP also indicated that the number of Filipinos exposed to fluvial floods will be up to around 48 million.

“We are expecting increasing precipitation in the coming decades,” Uy said. PND
