Sa opening at plenary session ng 42nd ASEAN Summit, ibinahagi ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang mga kasulukuyang suliranin na kinakaharap ng rehiyon tulad ng tumatandang populasyon at ang seguridad sa enerhiya na matutugunan sa paggamit ng renewable energy. Binigyang-diin din ng Pangulo ang sama-samang pagkilos ng ASEAN upang himukin and mga mauunlad na bansa na tuparin ang kasunduan ukol sa isyu ng climate change sa ilalim ng Paris Agreement.
