MANILA – Ozamiz City Mayor Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal on Wednesday thanked the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) for bringing the Explain, Explain, Explain on the COVID-19 vaccine to the city.
In a taped interview, Mayor Oaminal stressed the need for a proper information campaign on the COVID-19 vaccines that will be inoculated to Filipinos this year.
Mayor Oaminal bared that there is still a need to strengthen information dissemination in the city to ensure that the public understands its importance.
“If there are hesitations, it’s brought about by the fake news because there are those who are saying that the vaccine is not safe, it’s not effective, and it’s not the solution. These are discouraging people,” he said during the Network Briefing News with host PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar.
“The important part here is to be very vigilant in processing the news that we get through social media, because it poisons the mind if the wrong information is spread,” he added.
The PCOO and PIA were in Ozamiz City last February 18, 2021 for the Misamis Occidental leg of the Pagdu-aw: Explain, Explain, Explain, which aims to assure the public that only safe and effective vaccines will be used in the country.
Mayor Oaminal urged Ozamiznons to continue their support to the administration and to seek updates on the COVID-19 responses through government media and platforms to avoid being misled by inaccurate information.
“We have put our trust in this administration. We have put our trust in our President. So let’s continue to trust them by listening, by understanding the information cascaded by the national agencies through PCOO,” he said.
The local chief executive also discussed the priority agenda of the LGU which focuses on maintaining the peace and order in the city after a successful stride by the administration to dismantle the drug trade here.
He also noted that they continue to give their maximum support to the local police force.
“We used to be the drug capital, drug haven and then when President Duterte assumed office, he dismantled the drug trade here,” he said.
“We continue to give our maximum support to the local police now. In fact, the Ozamiznons have already regained their trust and confidence to the police,” he added.
