Q: Sir, some analysts said the midterm election results will boost policymaking for the President.
SEC. PANELO: Boost?
Q: Yes.
SEC. PANELO: What do they mean by boost?
Q: That means the policymaking for the President, the reforms, those bills pending in the Senate will have more chances this time since he has more allies there.
SEC. PANELO: Baka naman hindi more chances kundi now they will have more time. Kasi ang palaging problema noon eh ‘di ba, palaging nagmamadali hanggang inabot na sila ng… Siguro dahil marami na silang interesadong tumulong, eh bibilisan nila.
Q: What is the President prepared to do sir after the elections in terms of pushing for these reforms?
SEC. PANELO: Well, the President has laid bare all the programs of government that he has in mind, and the senators sitting there know them, as well as I’m sure the incoming senators, so nasa kanila na iyon.
Q: And sir, analysts also said the President is also [unclear] the face increased domestic pressures over his relation to China. This is in relation to voter’s distrust of the Chinese influence. So, what is he prepared to do then?
SEC. PANELO: Which one? The what? That Chinese concerns?
Q: Yes.
SEC. PANELO: Specifically what, for instance?
Q: Voter’s concerns… voter’s distrust of China; they are saying that like he will be facing more pressure this time.
SEC. PANELO: But it would appear to me now, as I have said in my statement, that though issues raised against the President by the senatorial candidates of the opposition which includes the concerns on the South China Sea, eh tinanggihan ng electorate – rejected.
In other words, hindi sila naniniwala doon sa sinasabi ng oposisyon noon na ang Presidente walang ginagawa, ang Presidente masyadong lax, ang Presidente pinapabayaan lang ang mga violation ng Chinese – hindi naman totoo ‘yun eh.
Q: They were saying that the—you don’t expect any pressure from the public in the remaining term—I mean, years of the President in relation to China.
SEC. PANELO: In the first place, there is no need for pressure from the public. The President knows his duty as president. The Constitution mandates him precisely to serve and to protect, so he will be doing everything that is required of him to do as president of this country – and that should be, of course, to the welfare of the Filipino people.
Q: Sec., ito na lang. Can you elaborate on your statement kanina na after the recently concluded elections that showed the resounding victory of the candidates of the administration, the Palace wishes to start with a clean slate which is free from disinformation attacks. What do you mean by clean slate?
SEC. PANELO: In other words, we are putting our hands and offering our friendship to the opposition. As I said in my statement, let us unite and build a better Philippines. It’s about time we do that. The sovereign voice of the Filipino people have spoken, we have to bow to the rule of the majority. And the majority says, “Ito ang gusto naming mga officials na tutulong kay Presidente.” Eh siguro ang mensahe din sa kanila, eh tulungan ninyo na para maayos natin ang ating bansa.
Q: Pero, how about iyong dissent? Iyong [unclear]…
SEC. PANELO: O eh—sinabi nga natin, ang dissent will always be there. Pero kailangan iyong constructive, hindi iyong mudslinging.
Q: Pinapatanong ni Ate Cel, ano daw update sa Japan meeting ni PRRD, kailan exactly?
SEC. PANELO: Hindi pa ano iyong.., ang sabi, ang naririnig ko, 28, ang sabi naman nila 30, 31. I need to get the definite date. I haven’t seen the agenda yet, but definitely tuloy.
Q: Anong mga agreements daw, sir?
SEC. PANELO: Hindi ko pa rin alam iyon. That one, hindi ko pa alam – wala pa bang sinasabi ang DFA?
