PBBM leads PSG Change of Command rites; hails elite force for patriotism

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr. led the Change of Command Ceremony of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) on Monday, optimistic of establishing a good working relationship with the elite force.

In a speech during the ceremony at the PSG Grandstand in Malacañang Park, Manila, President Marcos said PSG’s task goes beyond the stated mission of protecting the First Family and foreign dignitaries, but also defending the institution of the presidency.

“Because should you fail in your mission, that institution will collapse and the effects on our country will be dire. And that is why we only pick the best men and women that we have within our military to join the Presidential Security Group,” President Marcos said.

The Chief Executive also expressed his gratitude to every PSG trooper for the valiant efforts in the performance of their duties, noting every one of them has shown undaunted courage and unbridled patriotism by choosing to serve the country.

“With integrity and valor, let us remain united in safeguarding our institutions as it strives to bring about a more secure, peaceful, and dignified life for Filipino people,” he said.

The President also thanked the incoming PSG commander, Col. Ramon Zagala, for stepping up to the challenge of being the next PSG leader, hoping that that under his leadership, the PSG will continue effectively protecting the Office of the President and the First Family, as well as visiting heads of state and diplomats.

He congratulated outgoing PSG commander Brig. Gen. Randolph Cabangbang for his successful tour of duty as PSG commander.

According to the President, General Cabangbang’s accomplishments include the completion of several key PSG facilities such as the PSG Station Hospital and the Women’s Auxiliary Corps barracks.

The completion of those key infrastructures could help strengthen the PSG, and inspire the entire command to strive for excellence, he said.

Brig. Gen. Cabangbang received the Distinguished Service Medal, an award given to officers of the AFP for the “valuable and exceptional service rendered in a position of major responsibility” as PSG commander.

Prior to taking over as the new PSG commander, Colonel Zagala served as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson.

He concurrently holds the position as the Acting Senior Military Assistant to the President.

Joining the President were Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, Senators Robin Padilla and JV Ejercito, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino, 250th Philippine Airlift Wing Commander Brig. Gen. Pablo Rustria Jr., and former PSG Group Commander and 1001st Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Jesus Durante III. PND
