President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Wednesday led the inauguration of the newly constructed, P1-billion Presidential Security Group Station Hospital (PSGSH) that will cater to medical needs of PSG personnel and their dependents.
“The construction of this medical facility is an admirable feat, especially amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will greatly benefit PSG personnel, their dependents and other primary stakeholders,” President Duterte said during the inauguration rites held at the PSG Compound in Malacanang Park.
“This new PSG Hospital is a testament to the administration’s commitment to provide quality medical services to our troops.”
With the opening of the medical facility, he encouraged all PSG personnel to take advantage of the broad range of hospital services and state-of-the-art facilities made available to them, stressing highly-skilled medical staff will provide the best quality of service.
In the midst of the current coronavirus pandemic, the President made an assurance that his government will provide PSG personnel with all the necessary support and assistance they need to fulfill their mandate of protecting the country and the Filipino people.
Also on Wednesday, President Duterte witnessed the formal turnover of the book, “Philippine Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course Manual,” to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
He expressed his gratitude to the Philippine Center for Advanced Surgery of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma, PNP Special Action Forces, and the PNP Aviation Security Group for their efforts in publishing the manual.
“Your competence, knowledge, and skills are vital in developing the capacity of our troops and ensuring the success of their operations,” he noted.
“This manual also exemplifies the effective collaboration of various institutions to help safeguard the lives of Filipinos. We must continually support those engaged in field combat to maintain peace and order in the Philippines.”
The PSGSH started as Presidential Guards Medical Dispensary prior to 1971 and was later upgraded to a 25-bed capacity hospital, changing its name to Constabulary Station Hospital.
In March 1976, it became a 100-bed capacity hospital, and was renamed Presidential Security Command Hospital.
After the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, it became a 25-bed capacity hospital, and was renamed PSG Station Hospital. Now, it is a new two-storey, 51-bed capacity hospital equipped with Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment facility.
Completed this year, PSGSH is a 9,000 square meter medical facility that aims to provide medical care to PSG personnel and their dependents.
Its construction was funded through the long-term initiative of the Melco Resorts Philippine Foundation Corp., the charitable arm of the luxury integrated resorts City of Dreams Manila.
In conjunction with the mandate of the Philippine Amusement & Gaming Corp., the project began with the signing of the memorandum of agreement with the AFP in May 2018. Actual construction began in April 2019.
