Working on far-reaching changes in the government, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said the performance of all presidential appointees is now being evaluated as they are “basically on probation.”
In an interview with the media at the Malacañan Palace on Tuesday, President Marcos said what his administration is doing now is “not a Cabinet revamp.”
“I have to explain that … it’s not a Cabinet revamp. What we really did was, we are still in the process of examining. Now, nasa baba na tayo,” President Marcos said after administering the oath of office of Supreme Court Associate Justice Raul Villanueva.
“And we will be much, much more rigorous in looking at the performance not only at the top level, but all the way, all the way. And that’s why we will see, I’m sure you will see more changes in the future,” the President said.
President Marcos said he has “put everyone on notice” and that everyone is “basically on probation.”
The President said he is now reviewing those at the level of undersecretary and heads of agencies, as he noted that performance evaluation of government officials is not done in a ‘one-time, big-time’ manner but as an ongoing review.
“Ngayon, nasa Usec na tayo, nasa mga agencies na tayo. What you refer to as a Cabinet revamp is not a one-shot, one-time, big-time thing. It is an ongoing thing,” President Marcos added.
President Marcos said he is essentially putting all government agencies, departments, on notice and that they have to perform better to be retained.
The President said he would review if the targets on a periodic or quarterly basis were reached.
“And we will be looking very, very closely. And we will make that review on a periodic basis or maybe a quarterly basis,” President Marcos said. | PND
