MANILA – The Presidential Communications Operations Office on Tuesday received new broadcast equipment from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, through the Chinese Embassy here.
This is the final batch of broadcast equipment delivered to the Philippines donated by China back in 2018 amounting to P140 million.
In his message, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar thanked Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian for the generous gesture of China in helping build the legacy of the Duterte Administration not only in terms of infrastructure and COVID-19 response, but also in modernizing the information delivery services of the Philippine government.
“This is part of the Duterte Legacy and you are part in building these legacies – beyond the structures and buildings, beyond the vaccines that we have accepted from the People’s Republic of China all the way to the transmitters that you donated to the PCOO. Thank you for the gesture,” he said.
Part of the donation is a 10-kilowatt FM band digital audio broadcasting transmitter that will be placed in the Government Communications Academy in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, once the construction of the facility is completed.
Secretary Andanar noted that the equipment will help realize the goals of the PCOO in modernizing government media assets.
“I hope to see more of the dreams and aspirations we have toiled for PCOO and its attached agencies in the past six years come into fruition. Some of these may not be completed as we step out of office, but still it is my pleasure to be part of the team that has initiated bold transformation for the agency,” he said.
Other equipment will be distributed to radio stations of the Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS) across the country, including in Davao and Cebu.
Ambassador Hung Xilian commended the PCOO for its efforts in the past six years in providing services to the people and promoting understanding between China and the Philippines.
“We should seize the good momentum of China-Philippine relations. [Let’s] optimize the role of media as the bridge between our two countries and peoples, and strengthen China-Philippines media cooperation,” he said.
