President Duterte leads wreath-laying rites at Russia’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier


MOSCOW, Russia — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte honored fallen Russian warriors at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier here on Friday.

The President, who is on a five-day official visit to Russia, laid a wreath at the Kremlin Wall located at the Alexander Garden.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of Moscow is a war memorial dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War from 1941 to 1945. In front of the tomb is an Eternal Flame with the inscription: “Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal.”

The Chief Executive will cap his trip Saturday with a meeting with the Filipino community in Russia.

Filipino officials who joined the President were Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Communications Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, Sen.
