TOKYO, Japan—President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday extended his sympathies to the Japanese people after a mass-stabbing incident in Kawasaki, Japan on Tuesday that killed two people and injured many others.
“I express my profound shock and grief over the mass stabbing incident which regretfully happened in Kawasaki. I am outraged by this brutal attack against innocent young children,” President Duterte, who is in a four-day visit to Japan, said in a statement.
“On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend my sincere prayers for the victims and our deepest sympathies to their families who need solace and strength in this difficult time. We stand behind the government of Japan as it endeavors to bring justice to the victims of this horrific act of violence.”
A knife-wielding attacker was reported to have killed a 12-year-old schoolgirl and a 39-year-old man before stabbing himself to death.
According to reports, the suspected attacker, a man in his 50s, had also died of self-inflicted wound. At least 16 others were injured in the attack. PND
